USED OBSCENE LANGUAGE
SOLDIER SENT TO PRISON “You have a very long list of previous convictions and there is no use imposing a fine in your case,” said Mr. .1. 11. Salmon, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wanganui, yesterday, when sentencing Reginald James McKegney, soldier, aged 41, to 14 days’ imprisonment, for using obscene language in the presence of women in Victoria Avenue on Saturday evening. Sergeant J. F. Bonnington. who prosecuted, told the Court that at 6.30 p.m. accused approached two women and asked them for money. The husband of one woman appeared on the scene, saw the accused was under the influence of liquor, and told him to go away. Accused, who was very abusive, used the language comnlained of, and even removed his false teeth, laid them on the footpath, and wanted to fight. “He has been making a nuisance of himself round the town. We have had trouble with him on recent occasions,” Sergeant Bonnington added. Asked if he had anything to say. accused said that as far as he knew he used the language to the men, not the women. “I cannot allow this sort of language to be used to women, or in the presence of women.” said the magistrate. It may have been the effects of drink, but accused always seemed to be in trouble. Previous offences included disorderly behaviour, obstructing the noPre and theft.
