SENT FOR TRIAL
PLEA OF NOT GUILTY THE WOOLWORTH CASE (P.A.) Wellington A Sept. 30. Aftex* brief evidence had teen given by the final Crown witness in the Magistrate's Court to-daj- against Raymond John Watts, aged 28, an Air Force sergeant, he pleaded not guilty to the 22 charges against him and was committed by Mr. J. L. Stout S.M., to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being renewed. Watts, who was formerly a buyer employed by Woolworths (N.Z.), Ltd., faced ten charges of theft from the company and ten charges of failing to account for money to the company, the total amount involved in these twenty charges being £16,220. There was also a charge of forging a receipt and another of accepting a bribe. The sole witness to-day was Robert Cecil Guthrie Moore, a company manager, who gave evidence of dealings with Watts. The Crown Prosecutor (Mr. W. H. Cunningham) conducted the prosecution and Mt. G. Joseph the defence.
LONDON, Sept. 29.—The journal R d Fleet estimates that Germany at present has a fleet of 300 ■submarines a ter losing 200 so far in this war. Red Fleet describes the decrease in Allied merchant shipping losses as a great victory for the Allies.
