WANGANUI AMATEUR CLUB BOOMERANG CUP CONTEST Seven riders from the Wanganui Amateur Road Cycling Club held an 18-mile race on Saturday for the Boomerang Cup, The winner was F. Clinton, riding off scratch. There was a strong northerly breeze during th? race, but the * contest was faster than the previous Saturday’s, which was decided over the same course. Clinton had a narrow victory, winning by a wheel from Dutton, who also started off scratch, with G. Pidwell (starting off Irnin. 45sec.) filling third plac?, ana his co-marker, H. Hodson, fourth. T. Philpot (limit rider) came in a length behind Hodson. K. Dunlop and H. Pidwell (comarkers off 45scc.) drew for sixth place further back. Saturday’s victory for Clinton was his fifth so far this season and his fastest time was his sixth. He has ridden in 18 of the club’s 19 races this season and has filled 13 places. It was R. Dutton’s fifth second this season. Detailed results are: Placings, F. Clinton (scr.) 1, R. Dutton (scr.) 2, G. Pidwell (lmin. 45sec.) 3. Times, F. Clinton (42min. 18sec.) 1, R. Dutton (42min. 18 l-ssec.) 2. H. Pidwell and K. Dunlop (43min. 39sec.) 3. After the race on Saturday, the elu-b’s official handicapper. Mr. C. Chainey, in the absence of the president, Mr. H. Gedye, presented trophies won during the season. Those presented were: Garthorne Cup, K. Dunlop; Boomerang Cup, F. Clinton; Falconer Cup, F. Clinton; Adamson Cup. H. Pidwell. Although Saturday’s race was the last official event of the season, there will be another race this week of a distance of about 14 miles, and there will follow two further races for which special trophies have been donated.
