LEGISLATION IN U.S.A. EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN i (Recd 8 p.m.) Washington. Sept. 26. Senator Austin introduced a “Work or Fight” Biii. drafting all manpower between 18 and 65 and lowering the military age to 18. Men deferred from military service and those between 45 and 65 would be liable for service as war production or agricultural workers. Manpower Commissioner McNutt announced another plan intended to . increase manpower for war produc- ’ lion, whereby students may enrol in , a high school victory corps for assignment to places in the war effort, i The War Labour Board adopted the ; orinciple of equal nay for equal work for women enyfloyed in war industries in a decision involving a comoany at Providence. The board pointed out that in calling American women to J assume a vital role in the industrial f ront the country had an obligation to provide the utmost assurance that they are not subject to discriminatory troatmen' in compensation.
