FORESTRY CUP WON
NEW ZEALAND COMPANY London, Sept. 21. The New Zealand Forestry unit won the cup presented by the Ministry of Supply last year for inter-Dominion forestry competition and will compete to retain it on September 26 in Scotland. They will be opposed by the Australians. There are six events, with three New Zealanders entering for each. At the 15th. Company’s annual sports several were picked to compete in Scotland. Those who won oi were placed in their events included Lieutenant C. H. Chandler, West Coast, Sappers G. A. Parkes, of Rotorua, S. H. Barratt, of Cambridge. D. H. O’Brien, Tuatapere, and H. Lodge, of Karamea Following were the results:—l4ln. Underhand Chop: Lieut. Chandler 1. Sapper Parkes 2.12 in. Underhand Chon (second class): Sanper D. J. Bradley, Hokitika, 1; L/Corporal J. W. Webber, Greymouth, 2; Sapper E. Blake, Te Harotai, 3. Jigger Chop: Sanner Parkes 1, Lieut. Chandler 2. Sawing: Sappers O’Brien and Lodge. Lance-Cornoral E. J. Johnson, West Coast, won the mile in 4m. 42is. Sanper E. D. Queree, Christchurch, won the 220 vards in 23 4-ss. Sanper T. J. Meredith, Auckland, won the step and jump with 38ft. 81in. The 15th. Company won the tug-of-war. Those present at the snorts meeting were the High Commissioner for New Zealand, Mr. W. J. Jordan, and Mrs. Jordan. Lieut.-Colonel J. G Elliott, of Hawera. and Major C. Biggs. Mrs. Jordan presented the prizes.
