WOMEN’S BASEBALL
PAST SEASON REVIEWED “The first season of the association was a great success, interest in all clubs being well maintained,” states the report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Women’s Baseball Association to-night. The Wanganui Association was formed at a meeting held on October 7, 1941, when there was a large attend- , ance. The association obtained two diamonds on Gonville Domain, and a successful season was experienced, with eight teams partaking in the competitions. The main competition was won by Hinemoa, and a knockout tournament was won by the Crown team. Southern Cross, who afterwards became known as the Crown team, winning a harfiicap a-side tournament. Clubs affiliated to the association; last year were —Amazons, Checkers, Kia Toa, Star, Hinemoa, McGruers, Crown, Trojans. Two selected teams visited Palmerston North winning two games, anu losing two. At a return match, when Manawatu played Wanganui on Gonville Domain, Wanganui was successful after an even game. Although the Wanganui Association was only formed a year ago, at the end of last season it was one of the strongest bodies in the Dominion. The association has also had the benefit of the advice of two members of the governing body of women’s baseball in New Zealand. Messrs. C. Newton Hood and D.
