ALL REPLACED

BRITISH NAVAL LOSSES REVELATION BY MR. ALEXANDER London. Sept. 20. The First Lord o< the Admiralty, Mr. A. V. Alexander, said to-day that in the last two and a-quarter years of war Britain’s losses in capital ships, aircraft-carriers and cruisers had been replaced, and in destroyers the losses had been more than replaced. They had built fleets of corvettes—in which Canada had played a big part.—and had hundreds of landing craft. During the war Britain has lost the batleships Royal Oak, Prince of Wales, and Barham, and the battlecruisers Hood and Repulse. Eight battleships have been listed as building. Britain has lost the aircraft-carriers Courageous, Glorious, Ark Royal, Hermes and Eagle. Six new ones were either launched in 1939 or planned. One, the Illustrious, was finished in 1940. The Courageous and Royal Oak were sunk in September and October, 1939.
