ALARM AT GIBRALTAR

REPORTED b 7 ROME RADIO London, Sept. 20. According to a report from Algeciras, broadcast by Rome radio, Gibraltar has been kept in a continuous state of alarm. Numerous night explosions occurred in the straits as a result of British destroyers dropping depth charges when Gibraltar’s semaphore station signalled that an enemy submarine had been sighted. ANTI-SUBMARINE NET ACROSS BAY (Rpcd. 11 p.m.) London, Sept. 21. Vichy states that it was reported from La Linea that the authorities at Gibraltar are placing an metal antisubmarine net across the bay entrance over a distance of three-quarters of a mile in order to defend the coal docks. Old ships were placed against the commercial moles with the object of warding off an attempted landing.
