REPORTED TALK AT THE VATICAN New York, Sept. 20 The Pope received President Roose- I velt’s personal representative, Mr Myron Taylor, in a private audience at which the Jewish question in France is reported to have been discussed, says the New York Times correspondent at Berne. Neutral circles in Rome are of the opinion that the Vatican is initiating important action to assist oppressed religious minorities in occupied countries, and that Mr. Taylor came to Rome at the Pope’s invitation. MARSHAL PETAIN’S CONCERN 9.45 p.m.) Berne, Sept. 2u. It is learned from a reliable French quarter that Marshal Petain expressed dismay when informed of the Vatican’s critical attitude to the deportation of Jews and foreign internees from France. Petain was at a dinner at which the Papal Nuncio was present and Voiced the hope that the Nuncio understood the difficulty of the situation. The Nuncio replied: “This is not so and the Church is deeply concerned.” The conversation led to a series of formal discussions, culminating in written declarations from the French Cardinals.
