WOOL IN UNITED STATES New York, May 21 The Boston correspondent of th< New York Journal oi Commerce say: that uncertainties due to price-iixin* and doubts regarding the quantitie: allowable for civilian use ot woolier goods have caused some slowing up o the market, but such unceriaintie. have not obscured the fact that th< woollen mills are absorbing raw ma terials at an exceedingly last rate. An unprecedented quantity of wool was used m 1941, but 1942 is 5 easily surpassing last year’s rate of consumption of wool in the United States. In the first quarter 272,000,0001 b. of wool was consumed, compared with 229,000,0001 b. last year. The speculative side of wool trad ing has practically vanished, the onb aspect being whether traders are will ino; to let any lots go oelow the limi prices. Foreign wools continue t< have fair movement, with Australiai wools holding the foremost place ii the field in the fine grades, althougl submarine activity has caused ad vances in the war risk insurance rate, on shipments from Australia.
