THE FUR SEAL 'THOROUGHLY equipped by Nature for its aquatic life with furred feet, the fur seal disports itself for nine months of the year in water, and spends the other three months on the “Seal Rocks,” in which rookeries the young are born. The Fur Seal is to be found in six different localities, namely, Alaska, Northwest Coast. Cape of Good Hope, Lobos Island. Copper Island, and Robbin Island. Its chief food is fish, easily caught by the seals, which attain a surprising turn of speed in the sea. The seal makes one of the best and smartest of fur coats. It is extremely hard wearing, and as it has a slimming effect in appearance it is very suited for larger figured coats. The very dense under-fur provides the strength in the coat, and as the outer fur is so long and harsh it is plucked by furriers to obtain the best possible results. The natural colour varies from green-brown to brown, but the skins are usually dyed either black or brown, this treatment giving the fur a very rich appearance. Unfortunately, these coats are not now obtainable in New Zealand, but if you are considering purchasing a new fur coat this winter you should make a point of inspecting our excellent selection of charming, yet moderately priced garments that would grace any figure. Or, if you have a fur coat that has fallen behind the fashion, let us re-model it for you. Our repairs and dyeing department, equipped with all the latest machinery and dyes and staffed by experts, can make your old coat as good as new again. It is easy to use the Blandford service—all you need do is to post your coat to us with your instructions. We will quote you before proceeding with the work if you wish. But make a point of sending your repairs in early if you want prompt attention. We guarantee all our work and pay return postage on repairs. Look for next week’s fur fact in this space. H. H.
