The supporting programme completes the bill of fare—a popular Crime Does Not Pay short, a coloured cartoon, a Metro news, and at 7.45 an episode of the serial “King of th*» Mounteds,” which normally would e shown Saturday night. BROADWAY KNITTING CIRCLE Organised by Mrs. A. O. Scott, a number of business girls formed the "Broadway Knitting Circle” their efforts to go towards patriotic purposes. Last year’s activities went to St. John Ambulance and this year the Navy League is benefiting by their work. They meet weekly in their various homes and the first parcel for this year has been sent to Mrs. H. F. Arkwright for the “Navy” and comprised pullovers, sox, gloves, mittens, scarfs and balaclavas. The knitters are Mrs. A. Bush and the Misses L. Scott, M. Scott, D. Slight, D. Watson, M. Blennerhassett, N. Staples, O. Brenchley, P. Lankshear, D. Walker, J. Mairs and T. Hammond. Much credit is due to these girls who are doing this work as well as their other wartime activities. MARTON PATRIOTIC SHOP On Tuesday, April 28, the next Marton shop will be hold in the old auction mart, Broadway. This time it is for the benefit of the National Pat.iotic Appeal. It is in the hands of Lie Bonny Glen and Fern Flats shop district. This includes the Wanganui Road, one side ot High Street and a portion of Broadway and all are working energetically under Mrs. Walter Simpson to make the shop a great success. A feature is the splendid selection of raffles. Cooked food and all kinds of country produce will again be on hand in generous supply. A special gift has been sent by two veterans, aged 62 and 64 years respectively, as the result of a shearing wager.
