BREEZY REVUE
“CRAZY SHOW” AT OPERA HOUSE. I “Crazy Show,” which opened a Wanganui season at the Opera House last night, is ideal entertainment in these times of national stress, as the programme says “Anything in the programme appertaining to sanity in purely coincidental and snould be ignored,” and it was so. For about three hours an audience, without bothering to think much, is able to sit back and enjoy the fun and frolic. It can laugh heartily—and it does —at the crazy nonsense of the comedians it can have its eyes pleased by, the lovely ballets, and it can be impressed by the specialty acts presented by the Great Levante and other clove) people. “Crazy Show” is a sparkling production, taken at an exhilarating pace, and last night’s audience founa it a great reviver from the cares ol cverydayJife. It is a long time sine such a gay crowd was seen leaving a theatre. The six comedians—the debonair and likeable Robert Butt ami the broadly comic Ed. Edwards, Ronald Shand, George Corelli, Joe Valli and Lawrie Long—kept the audience in a merry mood, collectively and in individual items. Their sketching ano “heckling” incidents were particularly funny. Doris Whimp radiated personality, Esme Levante was very versatile, and Ursula Irving sang sweetly. “Chuckles with Jerry,” by George Tollerton and his lively little charge, was a popular ventriloquial turn. An impressive display of thought transference, sleight of hand and a few lines of patter with enough gags to keep Goebbels quiet for a season, were among the attractions the Great Levante had to offer in person. A feature of the show was the ballet. Another performance is being given this afternoon and the season will eno i to-night. Taken altogether, “Crazy Show” is decidedly a cure for the blues.
