COL. CLIFTON PROMOTED I Wellington, April 22. 1 Colonel G. H. Clifton. D.S.O. and bar. M.C., who late last, year wus ! seconded to the British Army as chiel’ i engineer to the 30th Corps, has been promoted to the rank of brigadier and is now in command of the 6lh Infantry Brigade, in succession 'o Brigadier 11. E. Barrowclough. D.S.O. and bar, M.C., who has returned to New Zealand lor special duty . Brigadier Clifton, who is well known in Wellington, was stationed al Auckland as commandant. of tlv* Northern Military District School of Instruction before he went overseas. A f !cr service in Britain, hr* went, to Egypt and later served in Greece. He won his M.C. in India in 1919. In ’his war the ■ award of the D.S.O. was made for ser- ; vices in Greece and that of a bar to : the D.S.O. for gallantry in Libya. when he had command of a supple column which took essential ammunition and provisions to the Neu Ze landers at Sidi Rezegh during a critical phase of the battle. The award was an immediate one.
