The monthly meeting of the Marton Junction Womens institute was neici .it the Presoyterian Sunday School • tail. Mrs. G. B. Gregory presided over a good attendance of rnemoers and friends. During tne afternoon presentations were made to two officials, Mrs. H.| .•ranke, who vacated tne office oi president. was presented by tne secretary with a beautiful piece oi china, ana .•ns. Davison, who nas retired from tne committee, was presented by Mrs. U. L. Humphrey wild a knitting nag. eulogistic references were made io their valuable work in connection with tne institute. Both ladies received beautiiui shoulder sprays. Mrs. flight, who has been acting-secretary since Mrs. Lawsons departure, also! received a shoulder spray. Presentations of serviette rings were made to Mis. Kilgour and Mrs. Mason, whose weddings nave recently taken place, and good wishes extended to them. An appt-al on behalf of the British Sailors Society was made by the president. a collection being taken up in the hail and forwarded to Wellington. A “bring and buy" stall will be nela at the Max meet.ng. in aid of the -oldiers’ parcels tuna. I An interesting paper on “Bulb Cui-1 • tire' was read by Mrs. L. Humphrey and Mrs. Davison read a paper on routine work in the garden lor the month. Masters Ronald and Sherwood Cooke delighted everyone with their singing. Uteri i Mesime tlalet Miles, Mit ffiell, Mat - thews. Martyn, Sim and Miss Hoffman. The winners of the competitions were:—Hussif. Mrs. Mitchell 1, Mrs. Montgomery 2, Mrs. Johnstone 3. Wholemeal cakes. Mrs. Montgomery 1. Mrs. Slight 2, Mrs. Matthews 3. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. (chief), Mahoney, McDonald, Moss. Poppe, Lewis, Misses McNab and Nicol.
