SUNK BY U.S. SUBMARINES
SEVERAL JAP. VESSELS (Recd. 7.5 p.m.) Washington, April 3. A Naw Department communique savs: "The latest reports indicate that United States submarines operating in the Java Sea and the Indian Sea indicted the following damage on the enemv:—A light cruiser sunk off Christmas Island. Another light cruiser damaged off Christmas Island bv a torpedo and the same cruiser the following day probably sunk. Two seaplane tenders were damaged near Bali. A supply ship was damaged near Lombok ‘island. One barge, a transport and one unidentified ship were torpedoed and damaged near Bali. This damage has not been reported in any previous communique. An 'official compilation of losses inflicted hitherto on the Japanese is as follows: —Warships: 21 sunk, seven sunk or probably sunk,-two possibly sunk, 22 damaged. Non-combatant ships: 48 sunk, live sunk or probably sunk, nine believed to have been sunk, 14 damaged.
