AMERICAN LABOUR SHORTAGE London. March 20. President Roosevelt told his Press conference to-day that the labour shortage in American war industries would begin to develop in the autumn, although the present labour supply was sufficient for expansion. He was asked whether some of the 13,000,000 men between 45 and 60 who will register in April might be used to meet the labour shortage. The President replied that he coula not speculate on that. He mentioned that he himself would register, although as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces he is not legally obliged to do so. The President read a report prepared by Mr. Donald Nelson about the hours worked in war industries. The machine tool industry averaged 55 hours a week, the aircraft industry nearly 49, and shipbuilding 48. Three more American warships were launched to-day at Atlantic ports. They were two destroyers and a light cruiser. ________
