DEATH IN WELLINGTON

FORMER RAILWAY OFFICER Well known in the Dominion a chief inquiry officer, New Zealani Railways, till his retirement 15 year ago, Mr. E. W. Berrill, Kilbirnie Wellingon, died yesterday after : brief illness. He was the father o Mrs. A. R. Donaldson. Wanganui, an> visited the city recently. During his long period of railwa service, Mr. Berrill was stationed ii Masterton, Napier and Wellington. H was transferred to Wellington in 192 as chief inspector and inquiry office: subsequently taking charge of th Royal train when the Prince of Walt toured New Zealand. He received much-prized memento from Prine Edward ~t the conclusion of the tour Mr. Berrill was also a recipient o lire Coronation Medal on the acres sion of King Gn.rge VI to the Throni In 1939 Mr. and Mrs. Berrill celt crated their golden wedding and en tert.ained a large family gathering a their resid'. nee. Their five childre. and 13 grandchildren were present. Mr. Berrill is survived by his widoi and four daughters, Mrs. A. R. Dor aldson (Wanganui), Mrs. H. Ro (Roseneath), Mrs. A. S. Aver.'. (Hata tail and Mrs. R. G. Forbes (Kilbirnie and one son. Mr. E. W. Berrill. jnr I who is on active service overseas. The funeral will take place at th Karori Cemetery to-morrow.
