WORK OVER EASTER
DEFENCE PRODUCTIONINSTRUCTIONS ISSUED (P.A.) Wellington, March 20. “The War Cabinet has decided that all firms engaged in defence production and all men engaged on defence works will be required to work on Easter Friday, Saturday and Monday ’ said the Hon. P. Fraser. “This will include all the various firms ana men employed on defence construction works throughout the Dominion, j will also include firms and workers engaged in the production of munitions and defence equipment of various kinds, and these firms have been notified accordingly by the Munitions Controller. “It further includes numerous other firms and workers engaged in the production of defence requirements, inducing woollen mills, tanneries whi:-.h produce military leathers cement works, the Reid (N.Z.) Rubber Mills. Auckland, New Zealand Insulators, Temuka, the Colonial Motor Company. Wellington, coachbuilders engaged on Army vehicles, manufacturers' of service biscuits, pickles and tinned meats, chocolate emergency rations, jams and tinned fruits, the Colonial Sugar Company, canister makers, box and case manufacturers. construction of minesweepers am. minesweeper engines, naval launches and sawmills producing timber for defence and emergency works. “The rates of pay will be those provided in whatever awards or agreements are in operation in respect to the various industries or works. “The war situation is such as to make n necessary for the worker engaged in these essential undertakings to forego their Er.ster holidays,” added Mr. Fraser. “Many of them have worked long and arduous hours producing war necessities, and 1 feel sure they will respond to their country’s call in the present emergency.”
