LOCAL DEFENCE COUNCIL
FORMED AT AUCKLAND (P.A.) Auckland, March 20. The formation of a local Defence Council was announced by the Mayor, Mr. .1. A. C. Allum. He said its establishment was effected with the approval of the Government. It would co-operate with and report to the War Cabinet. "Strong representations have been made to me and to the City Council,” said Mr. Allum, "that a local committee should be set up to consider local defence matters and to expedite and increase the production of war materials. This proposal was strongly supported by the City Council. With the approval of the Government I have formed a small tentative committee charged with these dutie:. Any citizen who has any constructive proposal to make, and any manufacturer who is in a position to produce war supplies and is not doing so, is invited to communicate with me. If any person is experiencing difficulty in carrying out war work he may also submit these difficulties.”
