Taihape, March 13. “The D.C.M. was not an easy decoration to win; it needed courage and endurance and above all the win Lo win througn when tne odes against one were heavy,” said Colonel C. G. Bowies, D. 5.0., C.M.G., at a largely attended civic reception lo corporal Ron. Moore, D.C.M., in the Taihape in the Taihape Town Hall on Thursday As tne ofiicial party entered the hall Corporal Moore, wno nas just, returned irom service overseas, was given a rousing reception. He was accompanied by his mother. the deputy-Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. E. Loader ana Miss N. Loader, coionc. Powles and his retinue, ana memoer.. of the Borough Council. Tne Taihape W.W.S.A. formed a guard of honour, and the Addis sisters playea a selection ol National airs. Proceedings opened with th’ National Anthem, led by sclioo. children, and Mrs. Moore was presented with a bouquet. Mr. Loadei then welcomed Corporal Moore nome, and also other returned men from the present conflict, and in doing so congratulated Corporal Moore on earning his decoration, the D.C.M. Othe. speakers were Mr. V. Smith, wiio spoke on behalf of the County Council. Mr. C. Newport, for the R.S.A., anc< Mr. V. Parsons, for the Patriotic Society and School. Captain Horton, of the Divisional Cavalry, said he was pleased to welcome tne guest of honour, especially as he belonged to his regiment. He sak; that Corporal Moore had been i driver ol a specially selected regimen, known as the desert patrol which hao led a battle against the Italians in Libya in June, 1949. He had then shown the qualities which won him the D.C.M., the lirst to be awarded in this war. The Deputy-Mayor then asked Corporal Moore to accept a presentation of a wristlet watch and a cheque from the people of Taihape and district Corporal Moore suitably replied. Guests were entertained at afternoon tea in the supper-rooms.
