PERSISTENT OFFENDERS
DELAY IN PAYING POWER BOARD ACCOUNTS "You don’t need the truck to carry the money away.” commented the chairman of the Wanganui-Rangitikei Power Board Mr. F. Purnell (Marlton), when the secretary. Mr. CX A. Ammundsen. was referring at the I monthly meeting yesterday to overdue ! accounts. I It had always been lhe boards policy to write and draw attention to overdue accounts, and at the same time threaten to disconnect the power supply, Mr. Ammundsen reported. In many cases, however, the consumer did nothing till the board’s truck arrived to disconnect. Sometimes consumers paid only 2s or 3s off the account. “I have previously referred to fh° I difficulty caused bv some consumers who persistently delay paying their accounts till the collector calls,” Mr. Ammundsen stated elsewhere in his renort. “Most of them are habitual offenders and their names appear regularly on the delinquents’ list away back lo the depression davs of 1931. . . ." “With shortage of staff and th r * need to conserve paper, this routine reminder of which about 400 go out every month an unnecessary waste, and I would recommend lhar 1h“ only notice lo the delinquents be an advertisement in lhe daily papers." Mr. Ammundsen’s report was adopted by the hoard.
