WARTIME RUGBY
WELLINGTON ATTITUDE Wellington. March 11. ' Although faced with a considerable i financial burden, the Wellington , Rugby Union will keep the game { going as far as possible in the com- ■ mg season without interference with j the war effort. At a meeting of the ’ union's management committee last | night it was agreed that, this course be adopted, the general feeling being that some form of competition should be provid-'d. o.wecially tor the players under military age. There were also, of course, the players of tho Services to be considered as well as those who were not engaged on military duties. Pointing to the fact that the union was confronted with difficulties, th.» chairman, Mr. J. N. Millard, said that the difficulties would have to bo met as they arose. It was desirable to provide for participation in garao.>. but playing ground requirements might nol h? so great as previously. Whatever the extent of play, tiie union would .till have to meet expenses, which wore not light, and , serious consideration would have to be given to curtailing expenditure. Tho union's expenditure in 1941 was £4584. and the .statement of account.-, for last season showed a loss of £435.
