McCullock. of Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs. David Strachan. Moana Flats. Mrs. E. B. Cooke, Victoria Avenue, has returned from a stay of several weeks in Wellington. Mrs. L. J. Webb Jones, Gonvillv Avenue, returned on Tuesday from Wellington. Mrs. J. A. Harris, Turakina, is spending a hliday in Palmerston North. Mrs. G. G. Hill, who has been on a holiday visit to Wanganui, returned this week to Hawke’s Bay. Miss Peggy Ross, of the staff of the 1 New Plymouth Hospital, has been visiting relatives in Wanganui.-’ Mrs. R. N. Hawkes has returned to Wanganui after a holiday spent in New Plymouth. Mrs. Norman Annabell, Mi 11 ward Street, lias left Wanganui to reside ui Te Aroha. Mrs. D. W. Earle, St. John’s Hill, has returned to Wanganui after a holiday in Wellington. HITHER AND THITHER Shop Day Readers are reminded of the shop day to be held al the Majestic corner to-morrow (Friday). Proceeds are to assist the appeal for emergency first-aid stations. Help and co-opera-tion in this effort, either by donations or attendance at the sale, will be greatly appreciated. There will be a copper trail in the Avenue. GUILD ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Wanganui Townswomen’s Guild was held on Wednesday afternoon in the Victorta Hall. Alter the opening ceremony, Mrs. F. W. Wagstaff, chairman, extended a welcome and invited Mrs. J. G. Denniston, vice-president, to preside over lhe meeting. Mrs. M. A. Archibald (secretary) read the annual report, which showed that the activities of the various groups had been well maintained. There was a decrease in membership owing to members taking up war work. Thanks were expressed to the officers, conveners of the circles, the tea commiAee and those who had assisted with the smooth running of the guild. Miss A. 11. Cole (treasurer) presented the financial statement, which revealed a satisfactory balance. Miss Cole was complimented on her work, and thanks were also extended to Mrs. Archibald. A two-mi mile silence was observed and sympathy was expressed with the relatives of the late Mrs. J. Siddells, a foundation member of the guild. An appeal was made lor equipment for the emergency hospital at the Victoria Hall. Community singing was led by Miss R. Fennell. The election of officers resulted as follow.-: I’residcnt. Mrs. W. J. 'l’he new committee consisted oi Mrs. Remington, Mrs. O’Reilly, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Uarvvardine, Mrs. F. Laird, Mrs. Dickenson, Mrs. Preston, Miss E. Smith and Miss J. Morris. Mrs. Preston was elected president. A most interesting talk was giver during the afternoon by Mrs. F. J. Williams, who described the evacuation of Papua. The competition, a tied bunch of flowers, was was by Mrs. Flyn’n, Mrs. Z. L. Smithy being second and Mrs. Budge third. The trophy for the points competivon won every six months, resulted in Mrs. M. Laird and Miss Dawes being first equal. Miss Frost won the trophy for 2nd. prize. Afternoon tea was in the hands of Mesdames Stephens, F. Laird, R. Taylor, Littlejohn and Grogan.
