CITY E.P.S.

ENROLMENTS CLASSIFIED ALLOCATION TO SECTIONS Approximately 2400 compulsory enrolments in the Emergency Reserve Corps have been cal.ssified into age groups ai E.P.S. headquarters, Wanganui. The men concerned are between the ages of 18 and 66, but except in special circumstances they will not. be interviewed before being allocated to a section of the E.P.S. Th** group director of the Home Guard, Lieut .-Colonel R. D. Hardie, D. will have access to the files, and will select men suitable to his organisation. An appeal will subsequently be made to these men to join the Home Guard. Emergency Precautions Service Controllers in Wanganui will also select mm they require Io fill vacancies in their respective sections. Several controllers have already made their selections, and personnel concerned are being notified by post of the E.P.S. section in which they will he expected to serve. Good progress has been made with the classification of enrolments and the E.P.S. organiser. Mr. A. C. Seivevright, said yesterday that they were indebted to Mr. j. B. G. Bradley. of th n staff of the High Court. Burma, now in Wanganui on furlough. and members of the Womens’ War Service Auxiliary who were assisting at E.P.S. headquarters. It was originally intended to interview all mon who have enrolled under the new regulations, but it has been found that such a course would involve much dela’-. As an alternative, [controllers are selecting suitable men [from the classified lists of enrolments. |Thc greatest need for personnel is in the fire-fighting section, a unit organised for th° protection of business promises in the city area. Many of the mon enrolled am residents of either the Wanganui or Waitotara Counties but their enrolment forms are being forwarded to the respective county clerks. Men living outside the Wanganui City boundary will therefore be rcauired to serve in county E.P.S. organisations. Not all the mon enrolled under the comnulsory system will be suitable for E. or Home Guard duties and it is not oxnected that, m°n suffering from disabilities will be called on for duty. Form s received at E.P.S headnuarters. Wanganui, indicate also that there are some conscientious objectors. As part of th* general E.P.S. organisation in Wanganui, details nf all personnel serving under the various controllers are being filed at headquarters.
