COUNTY COl N( IL DIS( I SSION Questions were asked at the monthly meeting of the Waitotara County Council yesterday as to what arrangements had been made for dealing with civilian casualties in the county during an emergency. Cr. G. f'almer commented that th*’ Army would attend to its own Honw Guard casualties, but he thought injured civilians would be the responsibility of the E.P.S. Information as Io what action local ' bodies wore required to take was J difficult, to obtain, said 'the engineer, Mr. T. Dix. He thought it was th' duty of the Wanganui Hospital Board to provide facilities for the care of casualties. Throe lots of medical equipment for first aid posts had been ordered. Mr. Dix added. Cr. R. Farley, who raised the question of civilian casualties said the Hospital Board should buv the equipment. and added that he would mention this at the board’s next mon'hlv meeting. The hospital had only a limiterl number of beds, but provision should be made for hospitals further in lan d. Mr. Dix said marquees could be used in the county as temporary hospitals. Residences were also available that would be excellent for use as hospitals. and extra accommodation could be provided by marquees.
