YOUTHS BEFORE COURT
ONE SENT TO BORSTAL On charges of being idle and disorderly, and theft of meat, valued at Is 6d, the property of Benoni William White, and assaulting White, two youths, Keith Eustace Burton, aged 19 years, and Jack Gay, aged 18 years, appeared in the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Burton was committed to a borstal for 12 months by Mr. J. 11. Salmon, S.M., who presided, and Gay was admitted to probation for two years. A ‘ third youth charged with the same j offences in the Children’s Court, was placed under the care of the Child I Welfare Olliccr. Detective-Sergeant J. K. Robertson, who appeared for the police, said that the youths had done some work for White on March 3 and on the following day visited his home again and stole the meat and one attempted to assault White by striking at him. While called out and they ran avvav. They had been sleeping out on the i river bank. J
