SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. A. J. Pritchard, Guyton Street, is visiting Tauranga. Mrs. J. Jannings, Welington, is visiting Wanganui as the guest of Mrs. J. H.’ H. Hill, Grey Street. Mrs. F. Treloar is a Wanganui visitor to Wellington. Miss Betty Humphrey, of the W.A.A.F., Wellington, is ’visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Humphrey, Somme Parade. Lady Tweedsmuir has completed the ooow, “Children of Canada,' which John Buchan, her husbanu, left unfinished when he died. The famous novelist had written all but the last chapter. Lady Tweedsmuir has written an epilogue describing what the chapter should have been. The title of the book has been changed. As “The Last Traverse” it will be published in England. Lady Tweedsmuir is an accomplishd writer herself. ENGAGEMENTS. Grogan—Gleiuiy.— The engagement is announced between June Alison, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Glenny, Hastings, and Maurice Patrick (Mick), only son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Grogan, Wanganui. Jupp—Brandon.— Mr. and Mrs. A. Brandon, Hipango Terrace, take great pleasure in announcing the engagement of their daughter, Kathleen Edith, to William James, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Jupp, Wellington. AIR FORCE RELATIONS. The monthly meeting of Air Force Relations was held in the lounge of the Y.M.C.A. on Monday afternoon, Mrs. Millen presiding over a large attendance. The meeting opened with the National Anthem, and during the few minutes of silent prayer, sympathy was expressed with the relatives of the late G. Waldon, A. Hansen and Bill Joyce. A number of very interesting letters from airmen overseas were read. All expressed gratitude for the splendid parcels of comforts received from Air Force Relations. Wanganui. Members decided to hold a collection and market as their annual effort in the first week in May. No programme of entertainment was arranged for this meeting, but members took advantage of the opportunitv to exchange news of the boys. A bring and buy stall did wonderful business and it was decided to spend some of the proceeds of the zone patriotic parcels. The ladies in charge of the stall Avere Mesdames P. Paul, Mooseman, Stewart and Garfarth. The very welcome cup of tea was served by Mesdames Robbie. Clark, Allom, ’ Ward. Brodie and Sissons. Members and friends of airmen overseas are earnestly requester! to notify Air Force Relations of any changes of address. W.C.T.U. MEETING. The Wanganui Central' branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union has decided to hold its monthly executive prior to the devotions which open the usual meeting, in Trinity Church Parlour., on the first Thursday in each month. At the March meeting, Mrs. Goodcy, vice-president, took the chair, in the absence of the president, Mrs. Duxfield. The main business was consideration of schemes of work for Ihe year. Time permitted discussion of ‘overal 1 | ihe Band of Hope and the Cradle Roll sections. Others or held over for the following mom.'.. A committee was formd to arrange for a Mothers’ Day social gathering in connection with the Cradle Roll. Names wore given in for helpers for various street collections. The meeting stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mrs. Siddells, a foundation member and a faithful and generous helper in ali W.C.T.U. activities since its inauguration in New Zealand.
