REGENT THEATRE
“BLIRMA CONVOY” AND “SAN ANTONIO ROSE.”
Gripping melodrama of the helldivers of the Burma Road, the twisting, turning, life-line of munitions and supplies for the embattled army of China, “Burma Convoy” commences at the Regent Theatre to-day. Charles Bickford tops the cast in one of the most daring, virile roles since he first appeared on the screen. Evelyn Ankers, the Nordic blonde beauty recently signed by Universal, plays the feminine lead. The story tells of the dare-devil truck drivers who roar across the hand-hewn route which stretches through the teeming heart of Asia, in the face of screaming divebombers and enemy snipers. Tailored strictly for divertissement, and fitting the order like Adolphe Menjou’s dress suits, Universal’s “San Antonio Rose” is a tune-filled measure
of fast, entertainment, largely comedy and music. The picture features Jane Frazee, Robert Paige, Lon Chaney, junr., Eve Arden, and The Merry Macs in the principal roles. The Merry Macs and the two girls carry the bulk of the musical offerings. Several song numbers make their appearance in the picture.
