EFFECT ON SPORTS GROUNDi A H XR-TIME ECONOMY Because of petrol restrictions supplies are no longer available fnr moior-mowers, and many sports bod • - had to find other means of keeping the grass down on lawns and greens once supplies on hand are exhausted. The Wanganui Golf Cluh has called for tenders for grazing rights on the Bolmpnt course, covering 120 acres for a year from March 31. Many country golf clubs customarily keep their fairways down with sheep. Using hand-mowers for the greens. The Wanganui Club has decided to adopt this course and no doubt others will follow suit. Wanganui bowling clubs arc mosily equipped with electric mowers for the greens. Country bowling and tennis clubs and private owners will be obliged to return to manual mowers. The Wanganui City Council's petrol allocation ha< been reduced by oncthii I. but sufficient is expected to be available, as a result of economies to continue the use of motor-mowers for urgent works on parks and reserves where electric mowers are not in us*.
