TAIHAPE FIRE BOARD
Mr. E. Loader presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Taihape Fire Board. It was decided that the Brigade should attend every fire irrespective of its kind and occurrence. The secretary was instructed to ask Inspector of Fire Brigades in Wanganui what type of bucket pump it would be most convenient to obtain and who would control them. Mr. Hayward moved that the borough Council be approached for information regarding the laying of a duplicate water service should the town supply fail. The secretary. Mr. W. Henson, tendered his resignation owing to military service. Mr. Loader wished Mr. Henson every success and added tii’at he had been an excellent secretary. Mr. Henson in responding said he had enjoyed his connection with the board. Mr. A. E. Leighton was elected secreI tary. | Brigade membership is as follows: Two officers, 15 firemen and the messenger. The fire engine and plant are all in good working order. SOLDIER FAREWELLED. A dance was held in the Mataroa ■ Hall in honour of Private Ron Davies. ' Ron is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Davies to join the forces. Prii vate Tom Davies, who sailed with the First Eschelon. is now a prisoner of war in Germany. Mr. J. Thorpe, in making a presentation of a wristlet watch, spoke of > Ron's popularity in the Mataroa disi trict in which he had spent most of his life and wished him God-speed and > a safe return. Private Davies suitf ably responded. There was a large attendance and a most enjoyable evening was brought to a close with musical honours. Music was supplied by Messrs. P. Arrow. G. Whale acted as M.C.
