WANGANUI HOME GUARD
FIVE HUNDRED RECRUITS WANTED APPEAL BY GROUP DIRECTOR. To bring the Wanganui Home Guard units up to full strength 500 recruits are required. This intimation was made known yesterday by Lieut.Colonel R. D. Hardie, D. 5.0., group director. He said personnel was required for the Headquarters Company, which guards vital points and petrol stations. Men were also wanted for the infantry companies of the Wanganui Battalion, Engineers. Company, and Signallers. Enrolments could be made at any Home Guard unit parade or at Headquarters, Ridgway Street. Unit parade areas are: A and C Companies, Home Guard Drill Hall, commanders Messrs. T. N. Hay-Camp-bell and W. H. Cannan; B Company, Wanganui East, commander. Mr. F. C. Jannings; D Company, Gonville and Castlecliff, Commander, Mr. W. Cleland; Engineers Company, Home Guard, Drill Hall, commander, Mr. E. A Marchant “The Home Guard in Wanganui is w'ell organised and has the equipment and instructors to train men in what is required in an emergency, Lieut.Colonel Hardie said. "No Home Guardsman is required for service until an emergency is declared, but meantime it is necessary to fill the strength ot units and intensify training."
