NO PRIVATE DELIVERIES HANGANII ( iTV AREAS As from Saturday. January .3, there will be no private delivery of bread within th? boundaries of Wanganui City, nor within half a mile of any store or dairy in th? Springvale, Putiki and Westmere districts. A decision to this effect was made at a special meeting yesterday afternoon of Wanganui members of the West Coast (North Island) Master Bakers' Association, following receipt of a telegram from the Wheat and Flour Controller asking the industry to put into effect a plan for conserving petrol and manpower. In a statement issued last night, th? secretary of the association. Mr. E. W. F. Gohns. said the controller had suggested that a saving might be made by curtailing private deliveries ani zoning. The industry was asked to treat the question as urgent and cooperate with the Oil Fuel Controller , "The members gave careful coni sideration Io the request, and with the I full co-operation of the general pubi lie hope to give effect to it.” Mr. ' Gohns added. ”A committee was elected to visit Ihe storekeepers and also the occupiers of dairies, with a ! view to seeking their co-operation. . The following resolution was also cari riod: j " 'That all members of the West Coast (North Island) Master Bakers’ Association bo asked to call meetings in their district with a view to considering a plan to give effect to the wish of the controller.’ "The bakers are taking this stop." said Mr. Gohns, "with the full confidence that general public will accept the small inconveniences as a set-off against the national saving in petrol. Though the hakers arc reluctant to relinquish their goodwill built up over so many years, the public will understand the urgent need to save petrol."
