LIEUTENANT C. S PEPPER <Press Assn ' Wellington. D®r 15. A story nf coolness and daring is revpaled in the .Ration of action which won the former .All Black. Lieutenant Cyril Stennard Pepper his M.C*. on November 23. about six miles south of Sidi Rezegh. Cyrennira Lieut. Pepper was with his troon of ♦wa-nounder anti-tank guns when a South African brigade was over-r in b\ enemy tanks. Lieut. Pepper led his gun into action under intensive machine-gun and mortar fire and It Ts estimated that about 24 enemy tanks w ere disabled. Through mistaken orders from the South Africans the guns retired about 1000 yards. Lieut Pepper collect eo them and personally led each bacinto action. He moved from gun to gun under heavy hostile fir? and this was an inspiration to his men. After nightfall, when the guns withdrew, he led a small party bark to recover one gun. which had been dama -ed
