PICTURE THEATRES AND THE BLACKOUT

For the present picture theatres in Wellington will be earning on as usual, but as one exhibitor pointed out this morning, circumstances might arise which would necessitate an alteration in the existing arrangements. In the case of a total blackout most houses would be able to carry on without infringing the regulations, hut. he added, he could see no point in closing at 9.30 p.m.. as was apparently being done in Auckland. EARLY CLOSING IN AUCKLAND • Press Assn. > Auckland. Dec. 13. The emergency order that all picture theatres in the inner city area should close at 9.30 p.m. took effect to-night. Fifteen theatres situated in Queen Street. Karar.gahape Road and. Upper Symonds Street were affected, j Of these three started their evenin*: sessions at 7. two at 7.15 and th*' rest . at 7.30. Suburban theatres were not affected.
