AIR-RAID PRECAUTIONS IN AUSTRALIA
BLACKOUT IN SOME PARTS Sydney. Dec. 15. The New South Wales Government has decided that air-raid shelters must 1 be provided without delay in all build-1 ings where more than 30 persons work or live. lhe removal of patients from hospitals in Sydney will begin this week. About three-quarters of the patients will be moved, some to homes and others to hospitals in other parts or lhe Stale. This will make beds available if there should be an air raid. The Federal Government has asked the Stales nut to impose a full blackout vet. but to be ready for one. The digging of trench shelters in paiks and vacant allotments will begin to-day. 'l he first complete blackout in Australia was enforced last night along a strip of Victorian coast This area includes some popular seaside resorts. The blackout will continue indeliitely. STATE RAILWAYS COM KOL BY GOV EK.XMEXT. Melbourne. Dec. 14. lhe Commonwealth Government has taken over control of the Slate railwa.vs, according to an announcement by the Minister of Transport. Mr. Lawson. The railways will be administered by the War Railways Committee. Mr. Lawson said the action would provide for complete co-ordination between the Army and the Transport I Department.
