Sl ( (’ESSI I L “SHOP” EVENING The annual Anglican Church “shop” evening, which was held recently in the Waitotara Hall, was very successful, although because of benzine restrictions and sickness in the district, the attendance was not as good as usual. The various stalls were well laden and stall-holders were kept bsy. As a result the church fund will benefit Io the extent of £75. The following were the winners of competitions: Cake. Mr. C. Thynne; dinner, Mrs. J. Walkinion; lucky stocking, J. Armstrong; silk stockings, A\rs. Basly; box of handkerchiefs, R. Laird: chocolates. Mr. Nickorima; weight of lamb. A. Handley. SOLDIERS’ PARC ELS The usual monthly parcels for local boys solving overseas were made up last week by members of the Waitototara Patriotic Committee and helpers. The secrctaiy, Miss Armstrong, read a number of letteis of appreciation and thanks from the soldiers who had received parcels. Next Monday, unaddressed parcels are to be made up and the public is asked to asssist with gifts, to include tins of sheeps tongues, milk or malted milk, tin sweets, or chocolate, tooth brush, boot laces, razor blades, soap (in tins), or donations of money. Any ot these things, which will be very acceptable, may be loft with Mrs. Train,

Mrs. Biackie, or at the stores. Th • Maori Womens Institute has given much help with soldiers' parcels. Maori Knitters Required. The Wanganui Patriotic Zone is receiving lOOlbs of wool a month for the Army, and has asked the- Waito- , tara Committee to try and do more knitting. Wool will he supplied to anyone willing to knit. Last month, knitting done and sent in from Wa>totara, was 35 balaclavas, 5 scarves, and 4 pairs mittens.
