Though he did not like making comparisons, he regretted hearing people in New Zealand say that "politics was a dirty game and only fools went into it. said the headmaster, Mr F. W. Gilligan, at the Wanganui Collegiate School prize-giving ceremony on Friday night. Mr Gilligan was referring at the time to the success of the debating competition for the Keesing Cup. "In the Old Country.' 'he adde.t. "politics is still the most honouraolc of all professions, and I regret that some people in New Zealand should hold the view they do. The future will depend on men who have the aptitude to make their mark in public affairs." The debating competition, won by G. 8. Bogle, was an outstanding event of the school year, said Mr. Gilligan. With so many casualties in the ranks of members of the House of Representatives th«re mi an even greater demand than usual for gifted young people.
