Rev. F. E. H. Paton. Pukekohe, has been elected moderator of the South Auckland Presbytery for the ensuing 12 months.

Mr. George Lyttelton Laurenson is appointed Controller of Oil Fuel ana Motor-vehicles and is granted thehonorary rank of colonel, according to Gazette notice last night.

Private Alan Lowe, of the Wanganui "Chronicle" staff, was met yesterday and the manager, Mr. L. C. Young, on behalf of tne stall, made him a presentation. Private Lowe is in the A.S.C. unit of the 2na N.Z.E.F.

Rev. J. G. Laughton, Moderator Designate of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, and superintendent of Maori Missions, was a visitor to Marton yesterday, and was the speaker at the break-up ceremony of the Turakina Maori Girls' College.

Mr. Matthew Cable, general manager ol the Wellington tramways and electricity department, who is retiring shortly, alter 35 years' service, will be formally farewelled at a gathering to take place in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Wednesday, Januarv 21.

The death has occurred of Mr. Arthur William Saker, Wellington, al the age ot 43. As buyer for many years ot the footwear section of Bing Harris and Co. Ltd., botn at Christchurch and Wellington, Mr. Saker, by his ability in business, combined with a sincere and genial dspositon, made a great many frendships throughout New Zealand. He was also keenly interested in Masonic Lodge work. Mr. Saker is survived by his wife, one daughter, and three sons.

New Zealand circles, and especially the motor industry, will be interested to learn that Mr. Erreld G. Martin, managing director of the Atlantic Union Oil Company in New Zealand, will leave in a few days with Mrs. Martin to live in U.S.A. Mr. Martin, who is well known from end to end of the Dominion, has represented his company here since 1927. His successor in New Zealand is Mr. Byron E. Mills, who has occupied the position of assistant general manager for the past 14 years. Mr. Alfred Belcher, a New Zealander, has been promoted to assistant general manager.

The death has occurred in Haslings. ot Mr. Edward Fraser, at the age ot 74 years. Born in Aberdeen, Mr. Fraser came to New Zealand 30 years ago, and settled in Hastings. He was a baker by trade. His wife predeceased him four months ago, and he is survived by a family of lour sons. Messrs. Alex, Edward, John and Frank Fraser, and seven daughters, Mesdames R. McDonald. G. Broomhead, 11. Webber, J. Gray, J. Harris, J. Lansdowne, and W. L. Sorensen, all of Hastings. There are also 18 grandchildren and four great-grand-children. and four great-grandchil-dren.
