PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS
DIFFICULTIES CAUSED BY REDUCED LIGHTING A request that a pedestrian crossing be placed in St. Hill Street, in front of the Ladies’ Rest, has been received jby Ihe Wanganui City Council, nut has been declined on th* recoin mendation of th? Works Committee be|cause of a difficulty in obtaining certain materials. Th? request was from th? Wanganui Central Women's branch of th* labour Party, and th? letter pointed cut that as cars were frequently parked on both sides of the street it was difficult for women with children t o cross. “After going carefully into the matter the Works Committee cannot recommend that a pedestrian crossing be provided at the present time, the reason for this decision be:ng that owing to the reduced lighting restrictions it Is impossible to install th* lighting facilities required by th* Motor-vehicle Regulations. At a later stag?, however, the committee will lie only too pleased to reconsider th? request.’’ the report to the council stated.
