£20,000 OF DAMAGE

BIG FIRE IN PALMERSTON (Pres* Assn.)* Palmerston N.. Now 29. Damage estimated at over £20,000 was caused by a tire which occurred in the main storeroom of Collinson and Sons hardware premises in Broadway shortly after midnight. The brigade kept the flames in a comparatively small area by fighting them from both Broadway and King Street, hut the cramped conditions in which the men worked made their task more difficult. The fire was suppressed within an hour. Most of the goods involved will be very difficult to replace. The damage was covered by insurance to the extent of £19.000 in the Lluvd Cuintmny.
