Mr. VV A. Weeses, ul Maxwell Line. Palmerston North, recently celebrated ius Ifioth birthday. Born in Devonshire, Mr. Weekes arrived in New Zealand in 1866. and was associated with the early railway construction of Ihe South Island. He later moved to the North island, settling at Palmerston North, and took part in much <>f the pioneering work in that centre.

Five sons and one daughter were horn to Mr. and Mrs. Weekes —Messrs. O. A. Weekes ’Titiraukawal, R. Weekes 'Raurimui. F. Weekes ’Patea 1 . J. Weekes (Palmerston North’ and L. Weekes ’Palmerston North’, nd Miss E. M. Weekes (also Paimers;on North’. The late Mrs. Weekes. ho was an outstanding horsewoman n her young days, was well over 70 cars of age when she passed away. Until last Easter Mr. Weekes enjoyed a walk about his property, but he

then suffered a fall Unfortunately. Mr. Weekes became blind about a year ago. Mr. Weekes received a host of congratulatory messages from friends in al! parts of New Zealand. In addition, telegrams of felicitation were received from His Excellency the GovernorGeneral. and the Prime Minister.
