LICENSED VICTUALLERS’ RUGBY CUP
PRESENTED TO WANGANUI TEAM PREVIOUS HOLDERS OF THE TROPHY At an informal gathering after the Rugby match between United (Palmerston North) and Technical Old Boes (Wanganui) on Spriggens Park, on Saturday afternoon, opportunity was taken to present the Licensed Victuallers’ Cup to the winning team. Technical Old Boys.
Mr. H. E. Card, president of the Wanganui Licensed Victuallers' Association, congratulated both teams on a fine display and handed the cup to Mr. A. Kjoss, captain of the winning team.
Brief remarks were made by Messrs. J. Ward, president of Technical Old Boys’ Club: J. Eagle, president of the United Club; C. H. Rhimes (Wanganui Licensed Victuallers' Association). A. Kjoss and R. Ward (cantains of the respective teams). The Licensed Victuallers' Cup was presented in 1925 for competition between the champion Rugby club teams of Wanganui and Palmerston North. Wanganui champion teams have won it (including Saturday's match) on eight occasions, and Palmerston North champion teams on four. Since 1925 the annual match has lapsed four times. The list of winners is: 1926. Old Boys (Palmerston North); 1927 and 1928. not played; 1929. Kaierau (Wanganui); 1930, Kaierau; 1931, United (Palmerston North; 1932, Kia Toa (Palmerston North): 1933, Kaierau: 1934, not played; 1935, Kaierau; 1936, Old Boys (Wanganui): 1937, Kia Toa: 1938. Old Boys (Wanganui); 1939, Old Boys (Wanganui): 1940. not played; 1941, Technical Old Boys (Wanganui).
