TERRITORIAL OFFICERS WELLINGTON WEST COAST TRAINING CADRE Selection has been made of a number ot officers of the Ist Battalion, Wellington West Coast Regiment, who are to mobilise for the duration of the war and become part of a special training cadre which is to be located in Palmerston North. It will be mobilised early in November. Officers selected are: The battalion conimanedr, Lieutenant-Colonel J. McK. Gordon, M.M. (Palmerston North), the battalion adjutant, Lieutenant F. P. Second-Lieutenant Furrie will be assistant adjutant, stationed in Wanganui, Lieutenant F. P. Fawcett being stationed a camp headquarters. Men of the regiment will shortly receive notice that they have been selected for service for the duration of the war with the battalion cadre. The whole battalion will go into camp, it is expected, for two months’ training in, or about, the middle of January. The battalion cadre will be included in the training for that period, but when the two months are over it will remain on full-time service. The camp will be at one of the Central Military District establishments, and it is expected 1200 men will be in training there. The cadre, which is now being selected, will contain 128 all ranks. This is part of the new system of training recommended by the military adviser to the Government, Lieuten-ant-General Sir Guy Williams. In the selection of personnel of the cadre, an effort is being made not to take men away from essential occupations. The call-up is a compulsory one, subject to the right of appeal to the District Manpower Committee on grounds of undue hardship or public interest.
