MAJESTIC THEATRE

“LITTLE NELLIE KELLY.” Though she livens the story up with her vivacious singing, Judy Garland is cast in a rather more sombre role than that to which she is accustomed in “Little Nellie Kelly,” which will commence to-morrow at the MajesticTheatre. As the daughter of an Irish father she plays her part well, and in the purely dramatic side of acting gains new honours. Her father is played by Charles Winninger, who is the outstanding figure. He plays the part of a stern old Irishman with a chronic dislike for any sort of work, and who nurses a constant grudge against the man who married his daughter and took her to America. Pie vows never to speak to him, and doesn't, though this does not stop mm from living on him. On the death of his daughter, he carries the grudge along with his granddaughter, and as an unrelenting martinet with plenty of blarney he makes himself very unpopular. The play is shot with plenty of humour and some old lush songs nicely sung by Judy Garland.
