PRICE CONTROL IN U.S.A.
EXPERT EVIDENCE ON BILL (Reed. 9 p.m.) Washington, Sept. 19. Mr. Bernard Baruch, economics expert, formerly economic adviser for | the American Peace Commission, who is testifying before the House Banking Committee of Inquiry on the Price Control Bill, said that legislation which put a ceiling over the entire price structure was the greatest single necessity of our present crisis and would save 20 per cent., or more, of all appropriations. Mr. Baruch said that while he strongly favoured the objective of the price control measure, he criticised Its sharp issue with the committee on several points, chief of which was that he favoured a single price control administrator, and contended that farm prices should not go higher than parity level. He also expressed toe opinion that it was impossible to prevent inflation without ceilings over wages, rents and farm products.— U.P.A.
