SICILIAN FACTORIES

DEMOLISHED BY R.A.F. MIDDLE EAST OPERATIONS Rugby, Sept. IS. No British aircraft were lost in Libya, Sicily, and Abyssinia, according to an R.A.F. Middle East communique which states that the harbours at Bardio, Tripoli and Benghazi were attacked by heavy bombers of the R.A.F. and aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm during the night of September 16-17. The results of the bombing were obscured by low cloud, but pilots of aircraft over Benghazi saw a tanker at. the Juliana mole which had been hit by heavy bombers on a previous occasion. At Tripoli, a large number of bombs fell in the target area. A number of stores at Bardia were raided and large fires resulted from the bombing. Many factories of Ligata, in Sicily, were raided in daylight yesterday by bombers of the R.A.F. Two sheds north of a factory were hit, one exploded, and the target collapsed. Large buildings in the centre and south of another factory were demolished, and one big shed repeatedly hit. Clouds of smoke, visible many miles from the target, rose into the air after the attack.

In Abyssinia, R.A.F. bombers attacked enemy positions in and northeast of Ozozo. Bombs burst among the enemy trenches. —8.0.W.
