New Bridge at Bulls. Although work has not yet started on the bridge which is to replace 'the present structure over the Rangitikei Rivei’ on the main highway at Bulls. Public Works Department workmen are engaged in testing the river bed for foundations.

School Air Raid Precautions. A scheme of air raid precautions, based on methods adopted in schools in London, has been inaugurated at Point Chevalier School, Auckland. It involves the evacuation of the children to private residences in the neighbourhood when an alarm is given.

Territorial Force Exemption. The recently-established Air Training Corps hets been given equal status with the Navy and Air Force in so far as members of it who are liable for Territorial Force service are to be exempted from such service while they remain members of the corps. Instructions issued by the Army Department state that such members are to be transferred from their Territorial units to the Territorial Force section of the area pool. Free Ambulance. According to the report of the transport officer and secretary, Mr. D. E. Gullery, received at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Hospital Board yesterday, the St. John Fre - Ambulance attended 313 cases in August, 10 of which were due to accidents and 303 medical and surgical. Th' mileage covered was 1464 The ser vice travelled 395 miles in transporting 235 military cases during the month. One special transport was arranged from Wellington to Wanganui. Ot the 313 cases attended, 283 were in Wanganui city, 17 in Taihape, and the rest in Otoko, Jerusalem, Bulls, Raetihi, Marton, Turakina, Kai Iwi, and Waitotara. Since its inception the service has handled b'l77 cases, and the vans have travelled 76,540 miles.
