NATIONAL SAVINGS

WANGANUI ORGANISER VISITS AUCKLAND SATISFACTORY RESPONSE The annual meeting of suppliers to the Whenuakura Dairy Factory last night was addressed by Mr. J. Gillick, district organiser of the National Savings campaign in Wanganui, who returned during the week from an organising campaign in Auckland. “The potentialities for saving on a large scale are enormous in Auckland.” said Mr. Gillick. who said that the importance of the scheme was not as yet fully realised in a city where warehouses, factories, departmental stores and other businesses counted I heir employees by Ihe hundred. It was with the object of setting in train a campaign which would interest these large firms and industrial establishments that Mr. Gillick was sent to Auckland by his department. After three weeks at Auckland, he said, ho felt confident that: success could be achieved, but in order to get. the work done quickly a staff of a dozen organisers could well be fully employed. The results he maintained, would justify the outlay.

Several addresses were delivered by Mr. Gillick at Auckland. An instance of . the value of the personal appeal was given by the organiser, who stated that as a result of the co-opera-lion of the management of the Westfield Freezing Works he was able to address 1200 employees at the works, a loud-speaker system being installed for the occasion. The meeting unanimously endorsed the savings campaign and pledged support. The meeting was all the more remarkable, said Mr. Gillick. in that, though lie had been I old that, he had a most difficult audience to convince, there was not a single hostile interjection nor was there any adverse criticism.

Many substantial savings groups had been arranged before he left Auckland. said Mr. Gillick. and tile successful development of the campaign appeared assured, but as yet the ground had "scarcely been scratched.” The response to the householder appeal throughout the Wanganui district had been rather disappointing, said Mr. Gillick though he qualified himself by adding that it was as yet a trifle early Io make a final sum-ming-up of the results.
