TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
AUGUST MEETING IN WANGANUI Japonica and spring flowers made bright decoration in the Victoria Hall yesterday afternoon, when a large number of members of the Wanganui Townswomen’s Guild met for the August meeting. In the absence of the chairman Mrs. F. W. Wagstaff, Mrs. A. Mayo, deputy-chairman, presided. Mrs. Mayo made feeling reference to the loss suffered by. Mrs. Wagstaff in the passing of her husband. Sympathy was extended to Mrs. Robinson, whose father had died, the meeting standing in silence. Sympathy was also extended to Mrs. Dixon, who has had the misfortune of breaking her leg. _ Two new members, Mesdames S. G. iGoodey and Frank Smith, were wel- ! corned. A letter was received from the i Wanganui branch of the Crippled Children’s Society asking for co-operation !by appointing a delegate. Mrs. A. i Mayo was appointed delegate. Mrs. M. A. Archibald, hon. secre- ' tary, read the minutes. An invitation was received to a social afternoon to be held by the Red Cross V.A. workers. Much enjoyed were the songs given by Mrs. W. E. Fossette and Mrs. J. Hodges, Miss J. Patterson playing the •ucompaniments for the former and Miss R. Fennell for the latter singer, they were presented with posies of ipring flowers. Mr. A. G. Mac Kay gave a second :alk on “The Cause and Cures of Ner- | vous Diseases ” which was listened to ■ with keen interest by members. A I vote of thanks, with acclamation, was accorded to the speaker. Mrs. Beaumont Bates, president of I he National Council of Women, spoke on matters in connection with the forthcoming N.C.W. Conference to be held in Wanganui.
